Tourist Social Worker

In the Lapland Central Hospital there is a so-called Tourist Social Worker whose tasks include

- preparing the return of the tourist taken ill and cooperation with insurance companies

- organizing payment commitments for foreign tourists

- ensuring that all necessary documents are delivered to the patient’s insurance company or a hospital in the patient’s own country

- preparing the necessary documents for the Hospital District and the treating physician (such as payment commitments and necessary medical reports from a hospital in the tourist’s own country)

- providing psychosocial support

The Tourist Social Worker takes care of arrangements concerning foreign tourists. Foreigners living in Finland, immigrants or asylum seekers are assisted in the Central Hospital by social workers in the various care units.
